Vacation Retreat
(self directed)
Make this your home base for a wonderful vacation. There is so much
to see and do. Experiencing God in Nature is a big part of what we do here ‘Inthestillness’. We love to hike or snowshoe (depending on the weather) and in this beautiful place overlooking the Bay of Fundy, God’s handiwork is evident in each and every view. God is our “Artist in Residence”.
This is a nature-lovers paradise with fabulous views to the bay, a large trail system to explore, and 190 acres of wilderness to discover.
Trail Map in PDF format.
Identify the footprints of the wildlife along the trails. Stand in the stillness and listen to the birds in the trees and the surf on the shore. Hike to the lighthouse, or to one of three nearby beaches where you can find your own secluded spot to lounge on the sand. Explore the sea caves and tidal pools, and possibly catch a glimpse of a seal or a porpoise playing in the bay. Explore this shoreline that has the highest tides in the world.
There is the nearby Village of St, Martins where you'll find many
local artisans, book stores, and great restaurants. We are also about
10 km from the world renowned Fundy Trail.

Guided hikes:
Giffin Pond: 3 hours (challenging) ($45)
Giffin Pond is a completely secluded fresh water lake right along the coast of the Bay of Fundy. The only thing separating it from the ocean waters is the beach. This beach at Giffin Pond consists of very big rocks that have been washed into shore over the years and have been worn smooth from the action of the tides. This is one place where the power of the tides is very evident. It is absolutely beautiful! It takes close to 1 hour to hike all the way in to Giffin Pond. We hike mostly downhill to get there and uphill to get back. This a great place to collect drift wood or other paraphernalia that has drifted to shore.
Brown’s Beach and Sugarloaf: 3 hours (easy) ($45)
The big rock you see out the window of your cottage is known as Sugarloaf. This rock marks the beginning of Brown’s beach. Your stay ‘Inthestillness’ would not be complete without exploring Sugarloaf and Brown’s beach.
The tides here can get as high as 33 feet. At high tide, there is very little beach to stroll along, and all you can see is the top of Sugarloaf, so we always time this hike around the low tide.
When the tide is low, you can walk right out to Sugarloaf and climb to the top. It is exhilarating! There are also caves to explore, secluded sandy spots to nestle in amongst the cliffs, and a vast sandy beach to walk along. Stroll these solitary sands and let the waves of hope lap at your feet.
Anvil Rock: 2 hours (easy with some moderately difficult areas) ($30)
Anvil Rock is the flower pot rock that you see as you drive in along West Quaco Road. It is situated along a very rugged area of the coastline. As you make your way along the beach to Anvil Rock you will come upon a cave that you can actually walk into and out the other side. This cave is underwater at high tide, so it needs to be explored when the tide is low. The tides here can be very dangerous. It is easy to get distracted with the beauty and not realize how quickly the water rises. Then if you are not careful, your only way back is all under water.
